Abstract

In Malaysia, water pollution is one of the major environmental problems facing the society at present, especially river water pollution. Despite their importance, especially as supply of water for consumption, rivers are continually being polluted by human. One of the main contributors to river water pollution in Malaysia is effluent (wastewater) discharge from industries. At present, many of the measures exercised by various government agencies to control industry-related river water pollution centre on the use of non-landuse approaches such as enforcement of legislation and use of technology. However, the use of non-landuse approaches is not without its own shortcomings. Hence, this paper aims to provide some insights into the possibility of using landuse approaches to achieve the same result, which is controlling industry-related river water pollution.
